Kidco
For many children entering our Kidco Program the world is a chaotic and unsafe place. Violated trust and repeated failed promises have left them with the belief that adults are threatening and harmful. With that in mind the primary goals of our program are restoring trust and assisting these youngsters in reclaiming their childhood. Our milieu is a model of consistency and trustworthiness in which encouragement replaces condemnation, harmony replaces chaos, and clearly defined expectations replace unpredictability.
Designed for boys and girls ages 6- 12, Kidco provides a safe and compassionate environment in which to resolve issues of attachment, hyperactivity, aggressiveness, self-destructive behaviors, depression, trauma, and abuse. The positive peer influence of small groups in conjunction with the rewarding of positive behavior aids in the development of social and communication skills and the enhancement of self-esteem.
T.R.A.C.
Treating Reactive Aggressive Children
Poor impulse control, intense rage, destruction of property, poor boundaries, inappropriate sexual conduct; these are all phrases that have been used to describe the behavior of the residents on our T.R.A.C. Unit. Designed for boys, ages 6 to 12, the T.R.A.C. Unit specializes in treating the sexually abused youngster who has begun to exhibit highly sexualized behaviors with other children.
Understanding that children this age are reenacting their own victimization, the staff on T.R.A.C. takes great care in creating a structured and safe environment in which behavior is shaped through practice, feedback, and reinforcement. Residents participate in a variety of treatment settings that build self-esteem, reduce aggression, and assist them in developing relationships without sexual overtones.
King
For many youth, the years between late childhood and early adolescence can be particularly challenging. Coupled with issues of depression, hyperactivity, defiance, or aggression, and a formula for self-destruction have been created. It was this unique combination of factors that led to the development of our King Unit.
Serving males ages 9-14, the milieu on King Unit is designed to help these young men overcome those obstacles that are hindering healthy emotional growth. Positive peer pressure and group support are employed in an effort to teach these residents an appropriate way to express feelings, respect for self and others, and to accept responsibility for their behavior while supporting their peers in doing the same.
