Nurse Sue Hominiuk

 Uncategorized

This is Dorothy, and recently I interviewed Nurse Sue Hominiuk. Nurse Hominiuk has been a nurse for The Children’s Campus for 16 years.

I asked Nurse Hominiuk what she thinks is the biggest problem facing you when working with the kids, and she said, “Not being able to be more involved in the kids’ treatment. Also, not being able to spend as much time as I would like to because there is so much to do with so many kids on the Campus.”

I asked Nurse Hominiuk if she has any kids of her own she said, “a son, 36; a daughter 32; and three grandchildren.” I asked her what she brings from her own parenting style to the kids here, she said “I am more motherly to the kids and some of the staff call me mom.” I asked her if she thinks working here has changed her parenting style she said, “No, I actually wish I had worked here when I had my kids because I would have kept them safer.” She said this with some sadness in her eyes and tone.

I asked Nurse Hominiuk what her favorite memory from working here was she said, “Holy Toledo! I’ve been here many years. There are so many memories; after 9/11 there was a prayer group meeting with Chaplain Doug.”

I asked her what her funniest memory from working here was and she answered, “Nurse Sullivan* and I use to talk about the silly incidents that happened with the kids and we would laugh a lot.”

I asked her if there was ever a time when a resident did something so sweet that it made you want to cry she replied, “I received a dandelion from a resident. It really touched me; I was having a hard day. Also, when I see the little boys come out of school they seem so happy.”

To wrap up the interview I asked Nurse Hominiuk if she had anything else she would like to say, she said, “It is never a dull moment here; there are so many challenges to meet.”

*Nurse Sullivan was the nurse here for quite a few years. She had cancer and was fighting it off but she recently went into remission and her body couldn’t take the treatment and she passed away. She was greatly loved by the Campus staff and residents. May God rest her soul.

Note: The above interview was performed by a 17 year old resident of The Children’s Campus. The program descriptions are solely her interpretation of services. To learn more about specific programs or treatments, please contact our Admissions Office at 1-888-8-CAMPUS x288 or TCCAdmissions@childrenscampus.org.
