Meet Miss Payovich

 Uncategorized

Dorothy here. This week I visited King Unit.

Miss Payovich is currently an YTS (youth treatment specialist) on the King Unit, which is a substance abuse unit. She started out on the Sunnyview girls staff-secure unit, and has been working at The Children’s Campus for one year.

I asked her why she chose to work here she said, “It offered more therapeutic value than my last job.” Miss Payovich use to work at a wilderness camp.

I asked her what she thought was the biggest problem facing her working with the kids and she replied, “Building relationships with the kids, because sometimes it is really hard to build up that trust.”

I asked Miss Payovich if there was ever a moment that you would like to just quit on the spot and she said, “No; but I have frustrated moments. Space and time turns into a teaching moment.”

I asked her if working here was like having your own kids and she said, “Maybe it’s the closest thing. In a way, yes.”

I asked her what her favorite memory from working here was and she said, “There are a lot of good memories but it all comes together in bits and pieces of a job well done. Last year, I went with the boys to Potato Creek State Park. The boys had never been canoeing. It was cool to see them learn how to do it and come together as a team.”

I asked her what her funniest memory was and she said, “We have a lot of fun times on King Unit, sometimes we can be pranksters and sometime we can be jokesters.”

I then asked her what asset she brings to the Campus and Miss Payovich said, “Good advice, humor, sensitivity and honesty. I think that kids really appreciate honesty.”

I asked Miss Payovich if there was ever a time that a resident has ever done something so nice that it made her feel warm and fuzzy inside. She said, “Yes, it always feels good when someone recognizes the hard work you do and when you can tell the encouragement and advice is being put into action.”

To wrap up the interview I asked her if she had anything else to add she said, “I love squirrels!” She also shared her most repeated quote: “Never, never, never quit.” (Winston Churchill.)

Note: The above interview was performed by a 17 year old resident of The Children’s Campus. The program descriptions are solely her interpretation of services.  To learn more about specific programs or treatments, please contact our Admissions Office at 1-888-8-CAMPUS x288 or TCCAdmissions@childrenscampus.org.
