PREPARING YOUTH FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING

Are you concerned about your older adolescent clients who will soon age out of the system and have nowhere to go? We are too.

The Children’s Campus can help you prepare them to live on their own as productive citizens.

The Children’s Campus operates two group homes in South Bend focused specifically on preparing older adolescents for transitioning into community living: Horizon House, a semi-independent living home for boys ages 16 to 18, and Liberty House, a semi-independent living home for girls ages 16 to 18. Both homes are located near downtown South Bend, with easy access to community resources and job markets.

Residents attend community schools, obtain part-time employment and take advantage of recreational activities and other programs in the schools and in the community. Residents maintain schedules for chores, job and school commitments (we emphasize completion of high school or earning a G.E.D.) to develop life skills and learn how to manage increased responsibilities in preparation for independent living in the community.

Since we opened Horizon House and Liberty House, many of our residents have moved on to their own apartments, have found full-time jobs, and, in some instances, have enrolled as full-time college students!
